BACKGROUND:
Daniel was born in Seattle, Washington on January 11,1965. He is Russian and Native
American on his mothers side with his great-grandmother a full blooded Native from
Alaska. On his fathers side there is Finnish heritage with his great-grandfather an
Olympic swimmer competing for Sweden. Perhaps this is where his love of nature and
sport came from. Though he played all sports growing up, basketball was his first love,
attaining first team all-conference two years in high school with offers to play collegiately.
He didn't take up the game of golf until a sophomore in high school at the prodding of his
younger brother. It was in the middle of his very first round that he hit the "
sweet spot" of
the golf club and felt the corresponding emotion of joy.  He was hooked and now
basketball had competition for his time and affections.

He played Division I golf as a Scholarship and Traveling member of the University of
Washington Huskies.  His low competitive round as an amateur was a 64 (Tournament
Record) in the 1992 Seattle City Amateur Championship.
